Diabetes Grade 3 Project This program was developed by the Northern Heart Health Coalition to address Type 2 Diabetes. It was initially funded by the Diabetes Strategy, and now is funded by the Northern Regional Wellness Coalition. Skipping for Active Living Program In partnership with the Primary Health Care Project in the Grenfell Region, the Northern Regional Wellness Coalition sponsored the training of community members in the skill of rope skipping (2006). These volunteers then offer programs in their respective communities to children and youth. The Amazing Race Designed to mimic the popular television show called the Amazing Race, members of the Mental Health Steering Committee designed a program for youth to encourage physical activity and mental health. The Stars of Mental Health The Stars of Mental Health is a health promotion program targeting children. This program was designed by two Labrador-Grenfell Health professionals. The sessions are delivered to students in their classroom setting. Age-appropriate scripts are utilized to encourage children to foster good mental health practices. The Toxic Tunnel The Northern Wellness Coalition has invested in tobacco education in its region. The Toxic Tunnel project was developed and implemented with the partnerships of Labrador-Grenfell Health and the local school district. In an effort to provide health promotion education that is both interactive and creative, the Northern Regional Wellness Coalition purchased a tent and acquired visual aids and awareness learning tools to place inside. Children, youth and families are offered educational tours about the harmful effects of tobacco use.
