Stars of Mental Health
Freddy & Frieda are the performers of the Kindergarten to Grade 3 mental health program called "The Stars of Mental Health". They are the newest (and youngest) members of the Northern Regional Wellness Coalition. They visit schools along the Northern Peninsula and the South Coast of Labrador with messages about the importance of good mental health.
Ticker Tom
Ticker Tom is the official mascot of the Ticker Tom Program - a heart health strategy for children. His message to the audience: Eat Healthy, Be Active, Stay Smoke-Free.
Toxic Tunnel
Karla Loder, Co-Chair of the Northern Wellness Coalition is demonstrating a lung comparison kit. The tobacco resource teaches how the lungs work by comparing an unhealthy lung with a healthy one.
The Toxic Tunnel has many tobacco resources. Some provide families with information about second-hand smoke and the harmful effects of smoke-less tobacco and chewing tobacco. "Lou-Wheeze" also provides a great overview of how our lungs function.
The Toxic Tunnel is approximately seven feet in diameter. This walk-through display unit was a great conversation piece at Charles S. Curtis Hospital in St. Anthony.
Many tobacco resources also provide children with information about the anatomy of the lungs and the harmful effects of smoking. If children and youth show respect for their bodies, they are less likely to start smoking.
